Welcome to The Respair Room in Tunbridge Wells; Complementary Therapies for health, relaxation and renewal
I felt a sense of support myself during a chapter in my life with reflexology treatments on a consistent basis. Somehow it gave me the reset I sought at that time. Later on I developed a deep interest in non clinical complementary therapy and I still believe qualifying in reflexology offered me the perfect, practical hands-on approach to helping people begin to appreciate its worthiness.
My training was completed at Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead in late 2025. I was awarded a Level 3 Diploma by Maureen Burgess School of Reflexology.
I see diagnosis after diagnosis in my admin role within the NHS, and what could be described as the pathologising of distress. By contrast, reflexology allows deep relaxation in a calm environment – offering some relief from distress. I know I personally benefitted from regular treatment sessions. I hold a view that a diagnosis may exclude consideration of any social, relational, economic, cultural, or situational circumstances that may contribute to distress.
I am a full member of the Association of Reflexologists and take compliance seriously.
Reflexology is a natural therapy founded on the belief that your feet and hands are a reflection of the systems in your body - where specific areas correspond to organs, glands and structure. By applying gentle pressure to areas of the feet or hands a Reflexologist can help the body restore its own healthy balance. Evidence has been found for some form foot and hand therapy being practised in China and Egypt more than four thousand years ago.
After initial consultation, I offer a 60 minute session in a recliner chair in my comfortable and quiet treatment space - The Respair Room. Here the environment is calm, and free from outside distraction. Light background music is available by choice. A selection of balms are offered, scented and unscented, for you to select from. This helps with the gliding movements of my hands over and under your feet, a little around your ankles and around your toes too. My balms are natural and made in the UK. They soften, soothe and refresh the feet which are gently relaxed first before your reflex points are gently "worked" on on the underside of the foot, top of the foot and around the ankles. A map of the reflex points is on display in the The Respair Room. The treatment concludes with some gentle foot/hand massage.
Reflexology is suitable for all ages, from baby to adult, and can be especially helpful for long-term and recurring conditions. Reflexology does not diagnose and does not cure though; as a complementary therapy it should not be considered an alternative to conventional medicine.
Reflexology is a wonderful way of maintaining your body's healthy balance and general wellbeing, reducing the stresses and tensions that come with busy lifestyles and giving us a space to reflect on the mind as well as the body.
Reflexology can induce a deep state of relaxation, which improves the effectiveness of the treatment. Relaxing helps relieve tension and aids circulation, increasing the flow of nutrients, oxygen and energy to all parts of the body, and helping with the removal of toxins.
While it is not a cure, Reflexology can be particularly helpful in managing many health conditions, especially constant or recurring ones that we might have come to accept over time as being a normal part of life.
Balances emotions
A few of the more common conditions that can be supported through Reflexology. It is usually safe to have Reflexology alongside conventional medicine, but if you are currently having any medical treatment please speak to your GP before booking an appointment.
Everyone is different and the response to Reflexology can be immediate or sometimes take longer than one appointment, but often benefits can be seen after 4-5 sessions. Regular weekly treatments are best for the body properly beginning the self-healing process, and following an initial consultation I will suggest the number of Reflexology sessions I think we should undertake.
My reflexology is practiced entirely on the feet/ankles or your hands, so the most you'll have to do is take off your sandals or your socks and shoes. I initially cleanse your feet and then start my treatment by encouraging relaxation and gentle breathing. My balm is applied over the exposed skin, refreshing it along the way and imbuing the treatment space with a soft fragrance (if scented balm is chosen).
You might find some areas feel sensitive to the touch, but Reflexology does not involve hard pressing in the way something like a sports massage might. As a therapist I will be aware of the status of your feet, noticing how they feel, the temperature and colour. All these things play a part in understanding which areas of your body - as reflected through your feet - require a bit more care and attention.
Reflexologists cannot claim to diagnose or cure, but during a treatment we get 'feedback' as to which parts of the body are working well and which are not. Sometimes Reflexology will highlight a specific area which is struggling or working hard to maintain your wellbeing; if a particular reflex point shows this kind of reaction I'll discuss it with you at the end of the session.
Reflexology sessions for individuals last 50 minutes and cost £60 per session. I also provide a limited number of appointments for those on low-income; contact me to enquire about availability.
Note that if you want to cancel an appointment I require 48 hours’ notice; otherwise you will still need to pay for any sessions missed. I accept payment in cash, by cheque or by bank transfer.
Not necessarily, but after an initial course of treatment many people choose to check in monthly for a top-up, to help maintain their general wellbeing, or as a scheduled 'de-stress'. Other clients will get back in touch if they start feeling aches and pains, arranging treatments as and when they need them.
I am based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, and am easily accessible from Pembury, Matfield, Brenchley and the surrounding areas. I also see clients from across the wider Kent region.
Initial session is 75 minutes duration and allows for a 15 minute consultation £40 (no extra charge for consultation/introduction)
Regular treatments of 60 minute duration £40
